Carnival, cocktails and Cristo

To visit Rio during carnivaaaaal you have to be a little bit crazy or 'loco' as locals would say, and be prepared to part with your precious reaia. My visit during one of the world's biggest fiestas is in fact unintentional, but I decide to embrace this travel curveball & do as locals do; drink muchos caipirinhas (the famous cachaca drink from Brazil), don a fancy dress outfit & hop from one bloco (street party) to another. The flipside is the city goes into shutdown mode, public transport is a mess and getting to see Cristo Redentor & Sugar Loaf is a challenge. Carnival aside, the highlights for me were taking the cable car up to Sugar Loaf Mountain, and witnessing Christ the Redeemer emerging from the misty Corcovado mountain. Yep, I think Rio could easily be granted the title of world's most beautifully set city.
